Croton Aviator Sea Diver ref. 1059039
$1,375.00
TOO MANY ASTERISKS
Like many flagship “chrono-divers” of the 70’s & 60’s, this thing is probably trying a little too hard. I imagine this is how these types of board room conversations went at the time:
“Hey, these dive watches are selling pretty well and are kind of easy to make…relatively”
“Yeah, well Omega just took the chronograph to the moon…”
“F*ck you’re right…”
“F*ck let’s wing it-combine the two”
Side note: who’s this for? This is like if Steven Seagal Karate chopped his way through a cockpit, jumped out the back with no parachute, landed a 10/10 dive into the ocean, and began to swim down to the evil under water layer to fight the final boss.
The idea of trying to make a Chronograph suitable for under water exploration is kind of insane and arguably trivial but Nivada Grenchen was up to the task. Croton-the American branded subsidiary of NG, follows the same format as its European older brother. Anyways, this thing is for sure sweet with perfectly preserved “pumpkin patina”-said I wouldn’t use these terms-lume, a maybe unpolished case with honest wear, and some shiny lacquer dial goodness
